Please mark your calendar for our fascinating International Women’s
Day program about issues impacting young girls and women in Pakistan.
Danville author Lubna Jahangiri will talk about her book
The Little Stepmother, A Novel, and her experiences living in Pakistan. The book is based upon the real-life
story of a woman Lubna considers to be a hero.
The Little Stepmother tells the story of a 12 year old girl in an arranged marriage to an older
man as his second wife and stepmother to his two children in north-west
Pakistan. It is a haunting story of Jameela’s struggle through physical
and emotional adversity to become a strong and successful woman.
Lubna Jahangiri is a lawyer, wife, and mother originally from Pakistan.
Born on International Women’s Day, Lubna has always considered this
a sign and is honored to share stories of countless voiceless women who
don’t have advocates. Lubna’s mother was a member of the Abbottabad
chapter of AAUW and Lubna feels a deep emotional affiliation with our
organization. The character of Mrs. Khan, an English professor in
The Little Stepmother, is based upon Lubna’s own mother, also an English professor.
This No Cost Event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Your RSVP is needed by end of day March 19 to plan our event arrangements
